Alison J. Collins, DO
AOA Board Certified in Family Medicine/OMT

Dr. Collins is a Michigan-native, currently in practice with Ascension Medical Group in Kalamazoo. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
Dr. Collins combines her love of medicine with her educational background in philosophy and the Great Books. This fusion of science and the humanities allows her to deliver outstanding medical care while also connecting with her patients on a human level. She uses each encounter to educate her patients, equip them with the tools they need to manage their health, and answer their questions with data driven evidence. Her approach fosters trusting, positive, and productive doctor-patient relationships.
In clinic, Dr. Collins works collaboratively with her colleagues. She contributes to the team, empowers her nursing staff to work to the full authorization of their license, and prioritizes a safe and positive patient experience.
Dr. Collins' residency training was at a Family Medicine program in Northern Virginia. She trained in rural and suburban outpatient practice settings and in inpatient care at tertiary and community hospitals. This intensive and challenging training helped her to develop a dynamic skillset that is adaptable to practice locations in major metropolitan areas and rural critical access settings alike.
As a part of Ascension Medical Group, Dr. Collins serves her patients with the backing of the largest Catholic healthcare system in the United States. Her office is located on the main campus of Ascension Borgess Hospital, where she is a member of the Medical Staff. This proximity to the main hospital allows for Dr. Collins to better coordinate the care of her patients with specialists and sub-specialists, while also providing her patients convenient access to the diagnostics, support, and treatment options that best fit their needs.
Dr. Collins is happy to treat patients ages newborn to 106, but immediately refers all patients 107 and over to Geriatrics.
She is married to her husband, Chet. They have four delightful children under the age of 12 and a Bernese Mountain Dog. When she's not practicing medicine, Dr. Collins can be found at her craft table designing greeting cards
